Dota 2 Surpasses PUBG as the Most Played Game on Steam in May 2019

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Hasn’t Been Doing That Well

PUBG
If you follow the news you may remember that before Fornite took over PUBG had become the most played game on Steam by a long shot reaching millions of concurrent players daily and making the game’s developer Blue Hole millions and millions of Dollars. Well, it seems like in recent months PUBG has been steadily losing popularity as the last time the game reached more then 1 million concurrent players was all the way back in January 2019.
If you head over to Steam Charts, you’ll notice Dota 2 is now the most popular game on Steam by a few thousand players. In May 2019, Dota 2 had a peak of 997,341 concurrent players while PUBG only reached a peak of 817,595 concurrent players in May 2019. Dota 2 was able to surpass PUBG, once the world’s most popular game by a long shot on Steam. Of course, a large part of PUBG’s player base is located in Asia and, since Tencent bought the game many players may have switched over to the Chinese version of the game or maybe they have stopped buying and waiting for a local release but, whatever the cause may be PUBG now has the second highest concurrent players on Steam. As Fortnite grows more and more popular and more battle royal games are introduced, PUBG will most likely continue to lose popularity in the west.
PUBG’s decline on Steam started back in February 2018 in which the concurrent player count was decreased by 193,872 compared to the month before it. PUBG continued to lose thousands and thousands of players all the way until November 2018 in which they gained a few thousand players but, PUBG started losing players again. PUBG hasn’t seen this few concurrent players since August 2017. It truly seems like that PUBG is starting to slowly die on Steam.
